A useful fit for

An open, thick knurled grip and a separate selection dial when the eight supplied weights suit your routine.

The main tradeoff

Ten pounds is the lightest selection and the gap between settings; magnetic adders and a floor stand are separate.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I reach 80 pounds per hand with a fixed grip, side-dial selection and knurled metal grip?

Yes. The plain pair supplies the full eight-setting US internal range through 80 lb, selected with the side dial.

Does the supplied plain pair provide an exact 12.5-pound setting?

No. The unmodified US selector moves from 10 to 20 lb. Magnetic adders are a separate purchase and no 12.5 lb setting is supplied by this plain package.

Is exactly 70 pounds available with matching loads at both ends and side-dial selection?

Yes. Seventy pounds is in the US table and uses the documented symmetric internal plate arrangement.

The SNODE AD80 pair suits a home lifter who wants a fixed, open metal grip and substantial capacity without moving loose plates between sets. Its strongest everyday distinction is the adjustment routine: turn the dial beside the grip while the dumbbell is seated in its cradle. The grip itself does not rotate. The compromise is the supplied weight ladder, which starts at 10 pounds and moves in ten-pound jumps to 80 pounds per hand. That is a practical range for some exercises and a coarse one for others.

Eight useful settings, with large gaps between them

The US table in the current AD80 manual lists 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 pounds. Decide whether those actual selections suit your routine before treating the pair as a replacement for a rack. A person using 40 pounds comfortably may still want an intermediate weight before moving to 50. The same ten-pound difference has a much larger relative effect near the bottom of the range. This package does not supply a five-pound setting or an internal five-pound adjustment.

SNODE offers the AD80 pair with eight magnetic adders as a separate choice. Those accessories change the ownership routine and should not be assumed to arrive with the plain pair reviewed here. If small increments are central to nearly every exercise, also compare the NÜOBELL 580, whose documented dial selections run in five-pound steps from a five-pound starting weight. Its handle-twist mechanism is a different preference, not the same control hidden under another name.

A fixed grip and a side dial

The AD80's open center avoids a surrounding handle cage. SNODE lists a 36 mm grip diameter and 115 mm grip length, also shown as 1.42 and 4.53 inches. The metal grip is knurled. Those dimensions make it worth comparing with equipment you already find comfortable: someone who likes a thick grip may value it, while a smaller hand may prefer a narrower one. Knurling describes texture; it does not establish how comfortable the surface will feel during your own sets.

Weight selection belongs in the cradle. The manual requires the handle to be pressed fully down, the plates aligned with the cradle slots and the selected number centered in the display with a positive click. Lift straight upward after checking the connections. Before the first workout, SNODE instructs owners to check each setting and verify that the plates remain attached during its specified shake check. These are real steps in the routine, so leave the dial visible and allow space to seat the dumbbell squarely rather than squeezing the cradles into an awkward corner.

Plan for the dumbbell and its heavy cradle

The official dimensions distinguish the dumbbell from its base: 18.11 inches long by 6.68 inches wide and high for the dumbbell, versus a cradle listed at 19.31 by 7.77 inches. Each cradle is listed at 15.3 pounds. The storage footprint therefore exceeds the dumbbell dimensions, and a shelf needs to support the resting dumbbells and the cradles together. Leave additional hand clearance rather than using the printed dimensions as an exact shelf opening.

The listed dumbbell length is not a promise that every lighter selection has that same length. The manual shows unused plates remaining in the cradle. For close movements, your relevant check is the selected assembly and your own available space, not just the maximum-load number. A stand is separate from this pair. Choose a stable placement with the display upright, as the manual directs; the included cradles do not establish that an existing side table is suitable.

Cast iron does not remove inspection and maintenance

SNODE describes cast-iron plates and cradles and a one-piece chrome iron handle; its FAQ separately identifies an aluminum inner rod. That is more precise than assuming every component has the same material. The manufacturer's drop-resistance promotion also does not replace its operating instructions. Do not force the dial outside the cradle, and stop to correct plate alignment or seek support if engagement is uncertain.

The manual calls for gentle cleaning with alcohol or mild detergent and describes white lithium grease for the V-groove after extended use. It also explains plate-order and storage maintenance. Keep that document with the pair, especially if someone else may later reassemble it. A cast-iron selection system is still a mechanism that needs its plates in the correct order.

Who should choose this pair?

Choose the plain AD80 pair when its eight exact loads cover your routine, the thick fixed grip appeals and you have a permanent place for the cradles. The PowerBlock Pro 100 EXP 80 with knurled grips offers a different selector and micro-weight routine to compare. An Ironmaster Original 75-pound pair instead favors manual plate loading. If ten-pound jumps would lead you to buy another set immediately, settle that requirement before choosing the plain AD80 package.
