Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I buy 50 pounds per hand now and expand later?
Yes. This is the base pair; compatible Elite USA Stage 2 and Stage 3 are additional purchases.
Explore this need in the finder →Does this current pair include a knurled metal grip?
Yes, the current listed grip is 32 mm knurled stainless steel.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I select exactly 12.5 pounds?
No. The published sequence jumps from 10 to 15 pounds.
Explore this need in the finder →The current Elite USA 50 is a pair for someone who wants a steel knurled grip and a route beyond 50 pounds later. It is especially worth considering when the same room must accommodate light accessory work and heavier dumbbell exercises without a rack of separate pairs. Its main compromise is the two-part adjustment routine: the selector pin chooses the stack, while removable micro weights change the handle weight.
Buy the current configuration deliberately
This assessment covers the current 50-pound-per-hand package with the 32 mm knurled stainless steel grip. PowerBlock lists it as SKU 501-00086-02. Older descriptions of a rubber grip are not a description of this particular package. The included capacity is 50 pounds in each hand, not 50 pounds combined and not an immediately usable 90 pounds.
The 50-pound set is the base of the Elite USA expansion route. Stage 2 takes the compatible base to 70 pounds per hand; Stage 3 continues to 90. Those are additional purchases. That distinction matters if you are comparing a base-set listing with a bundle that already contains expansion stages. Elite EXP is another family: its similar name does not make its expansion parts interchangeable with Elite USA.
Small adjustments have a particular pattern
PowerBlock's published selection list through 50 pounds is 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 17.5, 20, 25, 27.5, 30, 35, 37.5, 40, 45, 47.5 and 50. There are useful 2.5-pound changes, but there is also a five-pound jump between 10 and 15. A promise of uninterrupted 2.5-pound steps would therefore be misleading. If your routine specifically calls for 12.5 pounds, the Pro 50 is a more relevant comparison.
Each handle contains two removable 2.5-pound micro weights. Keeping, removing or restoring these is a separate job from moving the pin. Someone who repeats several sets at one weight may find that arrangement quite workable. A circuit that changes both stack position and micro weights repeatedly asks for more attention. Plan a place for the removed micro weights rather than treating the handle adjustment as a single quick gesture.
The grip is a reason to choose it, not a universal advantage
The current grip is 32 mm in diameter and 4.75 inches long. Knurling gives a textured metal contact surface; whether that feels comfortable is personal. It does not establish that the dumbbell will fit every hand or remain comfortable in every exercise. The surrounding block frame also makes this a different object to hold from an exposed round dumbbell handle.
The manufacturer describes welded steel plates with a powder coating. That construction should not be turned into permission to drop the dumbbells. The linked Elite USA instructions expressly prohibit free dropping and forceful contact between dumbbells. They also require an intact tether and a fully engaged, level selector pin. These are useful buying considerations if your existing workout habit depends on releasing weights onto the floor.
Where the 50-pound package makes sense
Choose this base pair when 50 pounds covers your current exercises and future expansion is a meaningful possibility. It avoids buying the larger included package before you need that load. Conversely, if 60 or 70 pounds is already necessary, compare the complete 70-pound configuration now; an upgrade route does not supply missing weight today.
Do not borrow the published 90-pound package length for this smaller configuration. We have not confirmed a separate current 50-pound length from the exact configuration evidence, so an essential maximum-length condition cannot be satisfied here. Allow working room around the nested stacks as well as storage space. A stand is a separate selection, and the official instructions advise direct floor support when an appropriate optional stand is not used.
Before each lift, follow the supplied instructions for selecting the rails, lifting straight from the stack and checking the selected weights. A jammed assembly or damaged pin needs attention before use. The Elite USA 50 is a sensible staged purchase for a buyer who accepts those checks and wants the current metal grip. For continuous fine steps through 50 pounds, start with the Pro 50 comparison; for 70 pounds immediately, choose the matching expanded package.
