Check recalls before buying a used pair

Check the exact used pair before comparing features

A familiar brand name, a clean photograph and a working selector are not a current recall check. Obtain the exact model and identifying labels, then compare them with official manufacturer and CPSC notices. Keep the units out of use while an applicable recall or uncertain identity is being resolved.

BowFlex 552 and 1090: follow the current notice

The June 2025 CPSC notice covers BowFlex 552 and 1090 dumbbells because plates can detach during use. It directs owners of affected units to stop using them and contact Johnson Health Tech Trading. Identification and serial details are on the official notice; the label is on the underside of the plastic tray. The notice also addresses earlier units sold by BowFlex/Nautilus, so the newer serial table should not be used to assume an older pair is unaffected.

Use the current BowFlex recall hub for the official claim form, details and claim-status route. Remedy terms depend on the relevant units and seller history. We do not offer these two recalled models as purchasing recommendations or send buyers to shopping searches for them.

The current Results Series 552 and 1090 are separately named replacement products on BowFlex's recall page, with their own current U.S. product listings and SKUs. Do not confuse a Results Series recommendation with an older recalled unit, or treat a used product as the new model just because it is described as a “552” or “1090.” Confirm the full Results Series name and product identity. A missing or uncertain label remains an unresolved safety question; follow BowFlex/CPSC directions rather than applying the current listing to a used set.

An older notice is not the final answer

The 2012 CPSC 1090 notice is a separate historical recall. Its current page says the original remedy is unavailable and directs disposal of affected products, without donation or resale. A historical marking or exception in that notice does not replace checking the later recall. Follow the current official guidance for the exact unit.

Check other makes without assuming clearance

Visit the PowerBlock recall page and the relevant manufacturer's support information for another pair. A notice about a commercial model does not automatically apply to a similarly named home model. Equally, failing to find a notice in one search does not establish that every other product is cleared.

For any used pair, verify that both dumbbells are the same intended configuration and that securing components are correct. Missing labels, mixed-family expansion plates, an improvised selector or unavailable instructions leave practical identity questions unresolved. A low asking price does not supply that missing information.

Keep the record useful

Retain the model, serial details, supplied instructions and any manufacturer correspondence with the equipment. Check official notices again when ownership changes or new information appears. If a seller cannot establish the exact package and its status, pause that purchase until the evidence is available. Then return to the buying guide to compare suitable current configurations.

Choose the pair around your actual weights.
